Heavy Rain, Strong Winds, Downed Trees Snarl Morning Commute

Periods of heavy rain, combined with strong winds, resulted in delays throughout Fairfield County during the Monday morning commute with downed trees also being reported.

Downed trees closed two roads in Greenwich: Davis Avenue at Wilbur Peck Court and Glenville Road closed between Midwood Road and Valley Drive.

Delays began early with a multi-vehicle crash closing two southbound lanes on I-95 in Stratford just before dawn.

There were heavy delays on southbound I-684 at the junction of I-84 near the Putnam/Fairfield border after a crash took out the left lane at Hardscrabble Road in North Salem.

Moderate to heavy rain will continue until early Monday afternoon on a breezy day with a thunderstorm possible. The high temperature will rise to the mid-50s but wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour will make it feel colder.

An average of about 2 to 3 inches of rainfall is expected, with locally higher amounts.

A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for Coastal Fairfield County until 2 p.m. Monday.

There could be scattered showers Monday night and Tuesday morning. Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with a high around 50 degrees.
